TODAY'S FEATURED PERSON OF INTERESTTEEKWA SCARBOROUGH

Teekwa Scarborough, a native of The Bronx, New York, where Hip Hop and Break Dancing was born wasn't influenced by the rapping or spinning on her head, but it was the education, which was instilled by her parents growing up.
She graduated at the top of her class (Kuma Laude) from Monroe College in 2008, with a BA in Business Administration-Computer Information. She is the eldest of her three siblings and is a single mom, with two children and two grandchildren.
She is currently employed at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York as an Office Support Associate/Supervisor and Event Planner, where she has been employed for the last 20 years.
Her desire to become an event planner was a passion at an early age when she admired becoming a wedding planner. She read magazines, watched various bridal TV shows, and designed eloquent baskets for different events.
That's when she periodically thought of starting her own business throughout the years but always found a reason not to, whether it wasn't enough time, money, or resources.
She had grown tired of the excuses and made a personal vow to end the up & down thought of starting her own business.
Through extensive research, small business seminars, and the daily routine of actively pursuing her own business she teamed up with her brother, Shang Scarborough to make her dream become a reality.
Today, she has maintained that drive and hunger, which has enabled her to launch Sophisticated Touch LLC. The start of this company allowed her to live out her dream, as an exclusive event planner.
Teekwa said starting the business is the easy part, yet, growing and establishing ones self in the industry is challenging. Therefore, her organization's main objective is to have memorable life-changing events that will be the talk of the town for years.
Over the past year, Teekwa has started a Podcast, Vision, Impact & Purpose; a blog called TeekwaSpeaks, released an Intentional Goal-Setting Planner for Virtual Assistants, and her new Digital online Teekwa?s Shop.
Recently Teekwa had an interview published.
PowerPro Assistants a Virtual Assistant Agency was birthed from seeds my parents planted in me at a tender age. As the eldest, I was a natural-born leader. I cheerfully presided over my three younger siblings in my capacity as caretaker and their unofficial ?boss.? Very quickly, however, I discovered that the boss role was not only one I was good at, but thoroughly enjoyed. As we grew older, my brother and I began planning events together and realized that inspiring people to follow a vision and encouraging others to achieve a collective goal gave me a genuine thrill. My parents preached the benefits of hard work, getting an education, and earning a good income. I carried those lessons with me as an event planner and eventually, as an Executive Assistant for over twenty years. This period of learning and on-the-job experience provided nourishment for the seeds of entrepreneurship that I thought lay dormant from my youth. On my own, I was determined, savvy. I had a knack for learning on the fly, yet corporate America taught me resilience and tenacity. I developed gumption, fleshed out my network, and grew my resources. Today, PowerPro Assistants partners with independent contractors to meet the administrative needs of other business owners. Moreover, as a Virtual Assistant Coach, I get to use all the tools and skills gained from mentoring others in my supervisory role as an Executive Assistant to help develop the next generation of entrepreneurs.
I became a young mom at the age of 19, and although having a baby is a blessing and they are so cute, the responsibility is a lot to handle. Like most mothers, they were able to take their healthy babies home, but I had to live in the hospital with two babies. I had twins and they both became sick and had to stay in the incubator, had surgery, and lost one of my sons at 11 months. My advice to a young teenage girl about life, love, and respect is these three things Love God, Love Yourself, and Love Your Purpose. When you love God, unimaginable things can happen in your life. When you love yourself, you will not find yourself in situations with consequences that you don?t want. When you learn your purpose in life, you will strive to achieve what God has planned for you. Travel the world, enjoy life, and make friends continuously. Always take risks. Get outside of your comfort zone at least once per day. Always challenge yourself so that you constantly learn and grow.
My Why is God number 1! I live for him because he sent his ONLY begotten son to die on the cross for me. He is the one who created me out of his image so I am beautiful, blessed and my steps are ordered by my Father. My purpose is to impact lives. My trials and tribulations were not just for me to learn from or experience, it was for me to share, inspire and impact others; specifically, single mothers with children. Additionally, my family, children, and grandchildren are so important to me, and my Why?s impact their lives. It is important in life because if your "Why" doesn?t make you cry, then you will not work hard to keep going. When I am ready to give up, I take a look at my Why and then say, ?Ok, God, I give it all to you."
I am a God-fearing woman who loves life. It is not about the legacy for me, it is just about how many lives I have touched by shining the love of Christ through me. This may look different in many ways: A smile, A Hug, A Sister, A friend, A Coach, or Mentor. Whatever it may look like, I want people to know that love conquers all. God is the perfect example. I am not perfect, but my goal is to touch as many lives as I can through my single ministry, Embracing Your Season of Singleness, which will be under non-profit called, International Limitless Women; Coaching Business or my Virtual Assistant Business, and whatever else God has planned for me.
