Why Do You Do What You Do?


The premise of the movie "Monsters, Inc." probably best sums up why I do what I do. The idea was that the world of monsters was powered by the children's screams. Purely by accident, it was discovered that children's laughs were even more potent! For years, I used the power that our Father gave me to hurt others. Then I discovered that when I used my power for good, the results were phenomenal. Our Father has given me the power to encourage people in unique ways and there is perhaps no greater joy for me in this present world than watching the color return to peoples' lives as our Father uses me to help them uncover their 'Y'.


Who Influenced You?


If I named all of the people who had an outsize influence on me, it would be a long list. Rather than bore you, I'd say that the most consistent influence came from Bishop Horace Michael, the pastor of Beulah Tabernacle Church in Brooklyn, NY. In him, I saw godly manhood and it was something to which I've always aspired. My uncle, with whom I went to church at that time, was more of a silent contributor in my life. He didn't give me a lot of instruction; instead, by being in his presence, I saw what a good life looks like. And then, later on in life, I read the works of author John Eldredge and so much of what he wrote in "Waking the Dead" spoke to my life--the need to uncover purpose, to develop that deeper, individual relationship with our Father.

  

What Would You Say To Your 10-Year-Old Self Today Knowing What You Know Now?


Oh, that's easy: "Listen to the people who love you." Do you know how people will say "Nobody told me?"? Well, I can't say that. Nearly everything that I'm learning at this late stage of my life was something that someone was trying to teach me when I was younger. In fact, that's one of the ways that I know for certain that our Father loves me: He placed the proper people in my life from the start. I simply chose not to listen.  


What Do You Want People To Remember About You?


There's a quote incorrectly attributed to John Wesley: "Catch on fire with enthusiasm and people will come for miles to watch you burn." I want people to remember that I was ablaze with the passion of my purpose: to show how absolutely incredible life can be when we live it according to our Father's will.
